I appreciate the guest post, Emerson Moses

Five series spin-offs. Eleven movies. But only one original. For a series that was nearly dumped before it aired, Star Trek has had, and continues to have, a phenomenal lifespan.

While each of the television spin-offs has its own unique fan base, for me, there can be only one. Whether it’s admiring Captain Kirk’s unmatched ability to win his way out of impossible situations, then win his way into the heart – and arms – of one of the ever-present alien beauties, or sharing Spock’s constant struggle to repress his humanity, Star Trek never fails to entertain.

On the air for only three seasons, 1966 – 1969, Star Trek was the groundbreaking science fiction series of its day. For the first time in television history, audiences were treated to an interracial kiss (Kirk and Uhura), a green humanoid with devil-like ears (Spock, of course), and most importantly, a moral lesson on current events.

Those lessons, I think, are some of the reasons I never tire of watching Star Trek (my crush on Captain Kirk might be another reason), and even though I have all three seasons and ten of the movies on DVD, when Star Trek airs on Cannon Satellite, there’s nothing else for it – I just have to watch.
