Holidays for Single Travelers

July 27th, 2010

Everyone deserves a break. It is easy to get burnt out working long hours for many weeks or months in a row. I, myself, have been wanting to take a vacation with my husband but unfortunately we can not afford it right now.

Single ladies or gentlemen may want to think about taking singles holidays designed specifically for them. At the preceding link above, you can find the best ever value holidays for singles. That site is the UK’s number one place for singles to plan their holidays. If I was still single right now and had a decent job, I would probably take that kind of holiday vacation myself.

When I was still single I had wanted to visit Paris but unfortunately was not able to do it. Now that I am married, I am still hoping that someday we will be able to go there. My younger sister is now married and living in Germany. They have been wanting us to come and visit them and I really want to go, especially since she has a new baby. Maybe we can plan a trip to Europe to visit her that would incorporate a stop in Paris.

It Helps Us Entertain

July 27th, 2010

I like it when public places like hotels, hospitals, doctors offices, airports, bars and similar places have satellite television in their lobby or waiting areas. I definitely prefer watching TV over reading.  I get easily bored reading and sitting for a long period of time with just old magazines to look at.  There are many people like me who do not like to read magazines or newspapers while in the waiting areas because they put me to sleep.  Places without it should think about getting direct tv for lobby installed to help entertain their customers, especially if they keep them waiting for extended periods of time. Fortunately most of the places that we go to like doctor’s offices and auto repair shops already have satellite TV. You can find out more about options for setting up television in an office at http://www.dishbusiness.com/index.shtml. For direct tv for hospitals, check out the preceding link.

We do not have a business like that but we do have satellite television installed at home because we live in a rural area where cable is not yet available. Antenna TV does not give us the many choices that we prefer. Having satellite television with recording capability is a great convenience, especially after a long and stressful week at work. Sunday is our rest day and that is when we usually watch a lot of TV shows. It is the day when my hubby and I usually watch television for most of the day. We sit back with a big bowl of popcorn or other snacks and beverages and enjoy sports and movies.

Last Night Before the Flight

July 23rd, 2010

The last night was a really sad and sleepless one for me. It was really difficult knowing that it would be many months before my visa would be approved and I could come here to the US. My hubby did not get the sleep he needed before the long flight because of me. He was trying to console me and cheer me up for most of the night. It helped for just a short period of time and then it would come back. Every moment was precious and, to my great dismay, the visa would take even longer than we were anticipating. It would be nearly ten and a half months before I would see my new husband face to face again.
PhotobucketThe following morning, my hubby and I woke up early. We ate our breakfast at a fancy restaurant in the hotel. After that we went back to our room and started packing my hubby’s stuff because later that evening he would be leaving. I did not want to wait until the eleventh hour.

After finishing the packing we took a walk around the hotel and then decided to hail a taxi and take a trip to downtown Manila and spend some time there. We went to my favorite chicken restaurant and had our lunch there. My hubby liked it more than all the fancy and expensive places that we had eaten at before. Later in the afternoon, we came back and had our dinner at the hotel buffet. There were many tasty goodies to choose from. My hubby’s favorite was the prime rib and I liked the shrimp. For dessert they had a flowing chocolate fountain that we used to dip fresh pieces of fruit.
PhotobucketWe left the hotel at about seven o’clock in the evening to make sure we had plenty of time to get to the airport.  My hubby had not flown in quite a while and forgot about the increased security that would no longer allow friends and relatives inside the airports to see the travelers off. He had been thinking that I could come in and we would be spending a few more hours together but when he arrived he realized that was not going to be possible.   Neither one of us was prepared for the quick goodbye as he decided that the best thing would be to send me back in the cab that brought us to the airport.   Maybe that was a good thing. He quickly ordered the same taxi driver to take me back to the hotel.  I broke down in tears and sobbed all the way back to the hotel.

Address Signs & Plaques

July 20th, 2010

We live in a rural area and have a mailbox near the road at the end of our driveway. My hubby has gone through several mailboxes and address signs but when the snow plows come through in the winter they damage and destroy the boxes and especially the address signs. Last time we had to have the box replaced because the snow plow actually hit the mailbox and knocked it down, completely destroying it. The county gave us a new box but it was a really cheap one and it is now rusting and falling apart.

We are thinking that maybe a solid address plaque mounted behind the mailbox might be the best way to come up with something that will last. We need to find a place that makes address plaques that are durable and long lasting.  Hopefully we will not have to replace it every other year like in the past.

Services at New Home

July 19th, 2010

Thanks to guest blogger Casey Roland for the post.

Making sure that all of the correct and necessary services have been turned on at a new place can get to be a huge headache, especially when you are moving to a new state. In 2009 I moved to Arkansas from Illinois and the process of getting everything turned on and set up was a lot to deal with. Since I didn’t know anyone there, I knew that I was going to have a hard time getting companies to send someone out to turn services on. Luckily, I was able to get a cousin to come and let these companies in. Once all of the cable, internet and electricity was turned on, I decided to have a Adt security installed at the house. I figured this would make me feel much more comfortable in my new home.

Once I was ready to actually move in, I felt confident knowing that my house was protected. Since I had to travel back and forth a lot for my job, knowing that my house wasn’t just left unprotected made me feel secure. Having the internet set up at my house early on allowed me to find new places to eat and find stores in my area. Since I wasn’t sure where anything was in my new city, the internet became one of my best friends very quickly.
